Building on the success of our pilot last year, we are creating a register of interest for those who want to experience what it's like to teach Computing Science. This short-term teacher insight opportunity is a fantastic way to gain firsthand experience and see if a career in teaching is the right path for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. This is a short (1–2 day) observational visit. You will shadow a qualified Computing Science teacher to gain insight into the role, but you will not teach lessons, lead activities or provide classroom support.

Visits typically last one or two days, depending on the host school’s availability and capacity.

You will:
Observe Computing Science lessons across different year groups
Gain insight into curriculum delivery and classroom practice
Learn about workload and professional responsibilities
Have the opportunity to ask questions about routes into teaching
The visit is designed to help you determine whether Computing Science teaching is the right career for you.

All universities offering a PGDE in Computing Science expect applicants to have experience in a school setting. This initiative is designed to support you in gaining relevant school experience prior to applying.

No. Placements depend on the availability of participating schools and your location. We will do our best to facilitate a suitable introduction, but we cannot guarantee a placement.

Based on guidance from Disclosure Scotland, short, fully supervised observational visits of this nature are unlikely to require PVG membership.
However, safeguarding procedures are determined by each host school or local authority. If PVG membership is required, the school will advise you directly. STACS does not arrange PVG checks.

No. You will remain under the supervision of a qualified teacher at all times.
